Hurricane Ike is set to make landfall on the Texas coast
around Galveston. The cities in that area have already
evacuated, and CNN is broadcasting the storm with live coverage.
I have been through several hurricanes even now at my early age
of thirty-six (36). I know the terrible aftermath that will
follow. People will lose their homes, their jobs, their schools.
Some will even lose family and friends as some will die in the
storm if they are unfortunate enough to stay along the coast and
others will be lost after the storm as communities move
apart due to the devastation. It is a hard time for everyone,
even family and friends living in distant cities that can only
watch from afar as their family and friends must evacuate. It is
a hard time.
This hurricane season is
turning out to be particularly active. Pensacola has been spared
thus far, but New Orleans and now Galveston are taking a
battering. People will need help. If you are in any position to
give, think about giving to the American Red Cross. The American
Red Cross is a well established organization with a well
regarded and recognized reputation. I will be donating one
hundred dollars ($100) today to the American Red Cross. I ask
you to contribute as well. Remember, giving and charity have to
come from someplace. They might as well come from us.

Even though you may be facing difficult times as far as
money at the moment, please consider donating to the
American Red Cross. You can donate in a variety of ways
and to a variety of vitally important emergencies. The American
Red Cross does a lot of great work, and there are people
in need even worse that you or I. |
