My credit report just got a new posting for a judgment
against me. This judgment is from the condo association dues
which my condo association took me to small claims court a few
months back. The judgment was paid-in-full two months ago. The
condo association lawyers have since notified the courts that
the judgment has been settled. I suppose, though, that there is
a little lag time before all of the paperwork makes its way from
the lawyers to the courts to the credit reporting agencies
(Experian, TransUnion and Equifax).
Since I am not in any
hurry to buy anything on credit any time soon, I am not too
worried about this latest bad mark on my credit report. I am
hoping that the judgment gets removed from my credit report
without me having to do anything. I will wait a couple of months
and check it again to see if it is still there. If it is still
there, I do have the official court papers which specifically
state that the judgment has been paid. The credit reporting
agency should take this and remove the judgment. I hope, though,
that they do this without me having to send them anything.
The judgment is listed in
the name of the condo association and shows the date and the
amount. Odd, though, it only shows what I owed the condo
association. It does not show the extra court costs and lawyer
fees that I had to pay as well - all of those added another
$8,000 or so to the total (lawyers are not cheap... and that did
not even include my attorney's fees).
This small lag time
between when something goes through small claims court and gets
on my credit report and will probably take even longer to clear
up just goes to show that it is hard to get back up when you are
down (your credit report, I mean). With my three foreclosures
(one has foreclosed, two more to go) and it being November 2008,
I think I will be years before all of this settled. This will be
a long ordeal. We do have a new President-elect. Maybe he will
do something to bail me and everyone like me out. The current
President sure has bailed out Wall Street. Why not me?
